Adding minors and guardians

Triton treats minors differently from adults — here's how guardianship and parental consent flow through the system.

On this page

A Triton "minor" is a member under the age of 18. They must be linked to at least one guardian, and several features (paying invoices, signing waivers, receiving marketing emails) route to the guardian instead of the child.

Creating a minor

When you create a new member, tick the Is a minor box and enter their date of birth. Triton will require you to link at least one guardian before you can save.

Linking an existing guardian

If a parent already exists in the system (another sibling is a member, or the parent is a member themselves), search for them and click Link.

Creating a new guardian

If the parent isn't in Triton yet, create them inline — name, email, phone, relationship.

What flows through the guardian

Billing

Invoices are addressed to the guardian, emailed to the guardian, and paid by the guardian's card on file. Under 18s cannot have their own payment method.

Agreements and waivers

E-signature requests go to the guardian. The child can never sign a waiver themselves — even if they're 17.

Marketing emails

Every marketing message respects Triton's minor policy: if the recipient is under 18, the message goes to their guardian instead.

Class booking

The child can still check themselves in at the kiosk using their own PIN. Guardians receive attendance confirmation emails if enabled.

Turning 18

When a minor has their 18th birthday, Triton offers to transition them to an adult account. This is a guided flow that:

  1. Prompts the guardian (via email) to approve.
  2. Prompts the new adult to set their own password.
  3. Detaches the guardian link, optionally keeping the guardian as an emergency contact.
  4. Transfers billing so the member can now have their own card.

Households

Multiple minors linked to the same guardians are grouped as a household in Triton. You'll see this on any sibling's profile — attendance, billing, and communication can all be managed at the household level when useful.
